Features of the technology of building a log house
Modern technologies make it possible to improve the thermal insulation properties of wooden houses, making them suitable for year-round living. They combine ancient traditions and the latest innovations. Using natural wood, such houses are considered not only environmentally friendly and safe for health, but also distinguished by durability.
The main material is a hand-cut log, which is much superior in quality to rounded logs. Construction begins with the selection of a suitable foundation: strip or pile – it depends characteristics of the soil and the dimensions of the future house. The first crown of the log house is placed on a waterproof foundation and is leveled horizontally. For each subsequent row of logs, a heater is used, which not only protects against the cold, but also has antiseptic properties. After laying the walls, the roof and roof are installed. The final stage is the installation of doors, windows, floors and interior work.
Each of these stages requires certain skills and knowledge, that is why it is important to attract professional builders, otherwise problems will not be avoided in the future, and all the advantages of such a house will turn into disadvantages.
Advantages of log houses
The relevance of log houses in Ukraine and Europe is explained by their undeniable advantages:
- Ecological cleanliness. Natural wood provides a natural microclimate in the rooms. The air will always be saturated with oxygen, so breathing in the house is easy and pleasant. Microelements and resins contained in wood have a beneficial effect on the human body.
- Low thermal conductivity. If the construction technology is followed and the wall thickness is at least 25 cm, additional thermal insulation will not be necessary.
- Good noise isolation. The walls of the log house absorb noise, so conversations in neighboring rooms will not be heard.
- Durability. With permanent residence and proper care, a log cabin can last up to 60 years. That is, the house from the log house will go to the children and grandchildren.
- Natural air circulation. Wood provides natural air exchange, so there will always be an influx of fresh air saturated with oxygen in the house.
- Lightness of construction. A wooden log house is many times lighter than massive brick houses, which means that you do not need to install a heavy foundation under it, which will allow you to save a lot of money when erecting the foundation for the future structure.
Attractive exterior. Wood has a unique pattern that will stand out against the background of other wooden buildings, attracting attention. There are no identical log cabins.
Disadvantages of log houses
Despite the above-mentioned advantages, the construction of a log house has its disadvantages. The main disadvantages of houses made of chopped logs are relatively long construction, in contrast to houses made of rounded timber, large and prolonged shrinkage of up to 15-20 cm within 1-3 years. But if construction standards are followed and shrinkage is properly controlled, the interior decoration of the house can be done immediately after the construction is completed.
Also, log houses are potentially vulnerable to moisture, insects, and fires, but with proper care and the use of modern technologies, such risks can be minimized by treating the wood with special compounds.
In general, log houses represent a unique combination of beauty, comfort and reliability, which makes them a popular choice for the construction of private housing.
